Laboratory of Electrical Protections (LOCH):

The laboratory is designed for measuring and testing electrical protections and devices used for the implementation of protections in the power grid.
The main function of the laboratory is to support the educational process of students in the subjects of Electrical Protections in Power Systems and Protection Systems in the Power Grid. The laboratory also serves the needs of applied research.

Testing auxiliary devices of electrical protections:
The laboratory is equipped with various types of instrument transformers for current and voltage, as well as current and voltage sensors, on which students verify their correct operation. Incorrect selection or functioning of current and voltage transformers for individual applications significantly impacts the operation of electrical protection. Therefore, verifying and understanding the principles of operation of individual instrument transformers is a very important aspect in the protection of the power system.

Testing of digital protections:
The laboratory provides the capability for secondary testing of digital protections using devices such as Omicron CMC 156, COMPANO 100, and SEL 4000. Testing digital protections involves a computational component where students, utilizing their theoretical knowledge, numerically determine the individual parameters necessary for the proper setting of protections. These parameters are then manually entered or programmed using ACSELERATOR QUICKSET software into the specific protection device, which is subsequently tested using Omicron Test Universe software and the Omicron CMC 156, COMPANO 100, or SEL 4000 devices.

The laboratory is equipped with a wide range of digital protection devices as well as real high-voltage distribution cabinets integrated with protection, disconnectors, and circuit breakers.

The Laboratory of Electrical Protections is currently equipped with three multifunctional desks where students can deepen their knowledge in the field of digital protection settings. These types of protections are commonly deployed in operations and industry to ensure the protection of specific sections or equipment.
